past projects
Punch like a girl
Led by one of NOMAD's young people with the support of a qualified boxing coach, our Girls' Boxing Programme created a welcoming space for young women to build confidence, learn self-defence skills and stay active.
Alongside boxing training, participants had the opportunity to connect with one another, form new friendships and take part in open conversations about personal safety and their experiences of navigating the world as young women. The programme combined physical wellbeing with peer support, creating an empowering environment where participants could grow in strength, confidence and community.
girls project
Our Girls Group offered a confidential and supportive environment for young girls, providing a safe space to navigate the challenges they encounter daily.
NOMAD provided a secure setting where connections are nurtured, aiming to empower these girls to comprehend and embrace their identities. The group convened, engaging in face-to-face sessions, and frequently hosts inspirational speakers and activists.
Building Connections Across Communities
NOMAD partnered with Kol Chai, Hatch End Reform Jewish Community, on a series of intercultural projects centred around food, storytelling and community.A particular highlight was a joint Jewish Muslim Iftar. Hosted by Kol Chai, the event brought together diverse members of the community to share a meal and engage in meaningful conversation during a time of increasing division. For many participants, entering a synagogue and sharing a meal with people from different faith backgrounds was a powerful and memorable experience. The evening demonstrated how food, storytelling and hospitality can build trust, understanding and lasting relationships across communities.
IN-A-LONDON
This was an immersive community event exploring stories of belonging and what it means to call London home. Bringing together voices from across the capital, the event celebrated the lived experiences of diverse communities through storytelling, conversation and creative expression.
The programme featured a thought-provoking panel discussion with community leaders driving positive change across London, alongside an interactive augmented reality (AR) exhibition developed in partnership with Supported Cities and threadslab. Visitors explored digital stories mapped across 21 London boroughs, offering a unique perspective on identity, place and community. The day concluded with live performances from emerging musicians and poets, highlighting the power of creativity to connect people, amplify underrepresented voices and celebrate the richness of London's communities.
FILM SCHOOL
This year we launched Digi Film School, a free filmmaking and content creation programme for young people interested in careers within the creative industries.
More than 20 young people took part, gaining practical experience across every stage of filmmaking-from developing ideas to filming, editing, and production. Participants received mentoring from industry professionals and visited YouTube to learn about career pathways within digital media and content creation.
The programme culminated in a public screening at Old Street Cinema, where participants proudly showcased their films to friends, family, and supporters. The evening concluded with an awards ceremony celebrating their creativity and achievements.
CALL ME BY MY NAME
OUR YOUTH-LED RESEARCH PROJECT THAT EXAMINED THE LOCAL IMPACT OF KNIFE CRIME. AS PART OF THIS INITIATIVE, NOMAD ALSO PRODUCED A DOCUMENTARY TITLED CALL ME BY MY NAME. THE FILM EXPLORES DEEPER-ROOTED ISSUES AFFECTING YOUNG PEOPLE, SUCH AS THE IMPACT OF WAR AND TRAUMA.
THIS RESEARCH PROJECT WAS SPARKED AFTER NOMAD HELD AN EMERGENCY MEETING IN RESPONSE TO EIGHT STABBINGS IN ONE WEEK, ONE OF WHICH INVOLVED A 13-YEAR-OLD BOY WHOSE PARENTS HAD FLED THE WAR IN IRAQ.
THE MEETING, LED BY 40 YOUNG PEOPLE FROM NOMAD, BROUGHT TOGETHER THE POLICE, SCHOOLS, AND HARROW COUNCIL TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE AND ADVOCATE FOR INCREASED YOUTH PROVISION AND ACCESS TO FREE SPACES.
Music Makers
a weekly music session where NOMAD community members engaged in the creation and expression of all things musical arts in the form of a shared Jam session, lead by facilitators, supported by young people
Shaax Eyo Sheeko
a community project centred on bridging generations and creating a safe, welcoming space for elders from POC backgrounds to connect, share experiences and take part in community-building activities.
A particular highlight of the project was the elders coming together to create a community cookbook, with each participant contributing a traditional dish from their home or cultural heritage. The cookbook celebrated the diverse backgrounds, memories and stories within the group, while providing an opportunity for elders to share a part of their heritage with younger generations.
